In which format is it best to deliver the print data?

To ensure that the colors are correctly represented on the printed product, it is important to supply the print data in the CMYK color space.

To ensure a clear and sharp result, it is also important that the print data is delivered in sufficient resolution. We recommend a resolution of 300 dpi.

As a data format, we prefer print-ready PDF files with edge trim or packaged open data. We accept the following file formats:

.pdf, .psd, .ind, .ai, .jpg, .png, .svg, .docx, .mp4, .xls, .eps

What should I bear in mind when creating print data?

There are a few things to keep in mind when creating print data.

  • It is important that the colors of the print data are created in the CMYK color space.
  • The print data must have a resolution of 300 dpi.
  • To avoid unsightly margins in the final product, the print data should have sufficient distance to the edge. We recommend a distance of about 3 mm.
  • All fonts should be embedded in the print data to ensure that the fonts are displayed correctly.
Do we check the print data again before printing?

As soon as we have received your order, we will carefully check your print data. If we discover a problem that would have a significant impact on the quality of the print result, we will contact you immediately.

What is a good to print?

Before a print product is produced in the final run, it is approved for printing - also known as "good to print. In this process, the customer receives a press proof or control printout, on the basis of which final changes and corrections can be noted. If there are no more changes, a "Good to print" is issued and we start the final production.

What does trim mean?

In order to guarantee a clean print without white paper edges - also known as "flash" - for all print products, the data must be laid out 3 mm larger all around. After printing, the print product is trimmed to the final format.

What do 4/0 and 4/4 mean?

The number 4 stands for the four colors CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key). Therefore, 4/0 means that the front of a print product is printed in the colors CMYK and thus in color, and the back is not printed. Which in turn means that with 4/4, the front and back are printed in the colors CMYK and thus in color.

Do we archive your print files?

To optimize the production process, we store and archive all print data so that we can access previous files as needed. All personal data is deleted in accordance with GDPR regulations as soon as it is no longer needed.

Is it possible to reorder?

Yes, repeat orders are always possible with us, as all print data is archived and stored. This saves you time and money and allows you to concentrate on more important things.

Environment

Is Schmid-Fehr printing in Switzerland?

All printed matter produced by us is made in Switzerland. Most of the print products are manufactured in-house in the heart of Goldach. Some products are produced in cooperation with regional partners.

Is production at Schmid-Fehr sustainable?

We attach great importance to environmental and climate protection. In doing so, we rely on sustainable forestry and pay attention to strict ecological and social standards when selecting our paper. We do our best to recycle our paper waste from the pressroom and offices to enable reuse. Our print production is climate-neutral and we are reducing our Co2 emissions out of conviction. To use sustainable energy sources, we operate a photovoltaic system that covers up to 20% of our electricity needs.

How can printing be climate neutral?

Printing can be climate-neutral by minimizing the environmental impact of the printing process and offsetting the remaining carbon emissions. This includes measures such as using recycled paper, environmentally friendly inks, energy-efficient presses, renewable energy sources and carbon offsetting. If a company wants to print in a climate-neutral way, it should choose environmentally friendly printing options and go through an appropriate certification process to ensure that the remaining emissions are offset by investing in climate protection projects.

At what point is a website obsolete?

The shelf life of a website is limited. To remain competitive, companies need to show on their website that they are "up to date" and remove outdated designs. The digitalized world is constantly changing. It is important to continuously optimize loading time and keep up with technological change. What is the difference between offset printing and digital printing?

In digital printing, the data is transferred directly to the digital press. The offset printing process is a lot more complex. The ink is printed indirectly onto the paper via a printing plate and then a blanket cylinder. In offset printing, the ink strongly penetrates the paper, whereas in digital printing, the ink lies on the paper, which often makes the image look glossier in digital printing compared to offset printing.

For more information, check out our blog post “Offset Printing vs. Digital Printing – What’s the Difference?”.

What is the difference between RGB and CMYK?

The RGB color model consists of the light colors red, green, and blue, which together produce white and are used on screens. The CMYK color model consists of the object colors, cyan (blue), magenta (red), yellow (yellow) and key (black), which together produce black and are used for print products. It is important to use the CMYK color model for print media such as posters, flyers, and magazines, and the RGB color model for all online applications such as websites, social media photos, and videos.
